The Long Game: Moment by Moment (Original Title)

Hey Reader!

Have you ever spent over an hour crafting the perfect newsletter email only to lose all your work when you went to edit a design feature, even though you took the precaution of copying your previous content in case you do, only to accidentally re-copy the filler text from the template instead of paste your carefully crafted content in?

Yeah. That just happened!

Gah! ๐Ÿ˜ซ “You idiot.” I remarked to myself. “You knew this would happen and it did. Why did you have to do that? Now there’s no way you can get it back. Ok. Go ahead and Google it. Yep, there’s an app for that and it doesn’t work now because you didn’t have it when this all went down. Now what are you going to do, dummy. No way you can re-create that brilliance.”

Aha! Maybe this is the message.

I caught myself in that negative thought spiral. I stepped away from my desk. I took a breath. I had a walk in the woods along the Mississippi with my dog and now I return, clear-headed, to the task at hand.

In the grand scheme of things, the loss of the content of my May Newsletter is not that big of a deal. But I tried re-creating the wisdom imparted in that first email, but, is landed flat. I now replace it with this wisdom.

Let it go and look for the gift?

Where is the message in this that is presenting itself to me now? I just had a big lesson in letting go. Letting go of thoughts, words, perfectionism. Letting go of my desire to share important and life changing information to you each month, and looking to the thing that is in front of me that I am grappling with in the moment.

In the past I may have stewed on this. I may have continued the tirade against my actions for days or weeks. I may have painstakingly recreated my previous text and still felt like something was missing. This is a sign of growth. I held on less long. I freaked out less intensely. I noticed myself beating myself up and stopped myself. This is progress!

Back to the subject of this email

This actually has to do with something I originally wrote about the long game. Look back at yourself ten years ago to see what you’ve learned and how you’ve grown. This growth may not be about what you’ve accomplished, but from all you learned in the attempt.

So maybe it’s all about the attempt and then the redirection when the attempt get’s accidentally deleted

With love,

Coach Katie
